Select Out-trips

These incredible backpacking trips explore the beautiful Rocky Mountains' valleys, plateaus, and mountain peaks. Along with breathtaking scenery and varying levels of hiking challenges, you will learn backpacking and outdoor skills. The out-trip size is limited to maximize the opportunity to explore more areas and invest in relationships. The focus is biblical, with an outstanding venue in the wilderness. Enjoy speaking times by the fire accompanied by beautiful hikes into remote locations, but more importantly, come expecting to be refreshed and share an amazing experience in the backcountry.

You will be expected to carry at least 30 lbs in a 50-80 litre backpack; packs will include personal and group gear. Participants should be physically capable of carrying their pack for kilometres at a time in mountain terrain. This could include trail hiking, off-trail hiking through bush, and steep rocky slopes depending on the group. Select 0ut-trips will take place in varying levels of difficulty (see below). Campers will be sleeping under tarps, the food will be cooked on camp stoves or over a fire, and all food and wildlife attractants such as soap, bug spray, or toothpaste will be hung from a bear line. The out-trip will be led by qualified Out-trip Directors who oversee all aspects of the out-trip program such as route, outdoor skills training, activities, meal preparation, and the programming/spiritual focus of the out-trip.

All Select Out-trips start and end at the Lake Site but the whole program is not at one of our three sites, rather in the wilderness. Come prepared to pack your bag at the beginning, then be driven to a trailhead to start hiking right away. The drop off time for select out-trips are at 10am and the pickup time is at 2pm.

Join us by taking this great opportunity to grow and explore the beauty of God’s creation this summer!

FAQ’s

Here are some questions we get asked a lot. Still have a question? Contact us.

  • All select out-trips start at 10:00am and end at 2:00pm. If you have any other questions about times for picking up your kids, or dates of camps please go to the specific camp page or contact us.

  • We have a handy what-to-bring list available on the site.

  • Select out-trips meet at the Lake Site where you will be introduced to the trip leaders and get geared up before driving to the trailhead.

  • Yes you will. You may not move camp everyday, as in, the routeplan may have two nights at a spot which allows for a dayhike with smaller packs to be done on the middle day. In all cases, you will either be moving camp or dayhiking everyday of the out-trip. For an 8-day out-trip, it is common to move camp 3 or 4 times and have 2 or 3 dayhikes.

  • Graduates of the Crowsnest Outdoor Leadership Training School (COLTS) lead our select out-trips.
