Skills Week

June 14-19, 2025

Offered as a 6-day intensive training week, our goal is to prepare participants to be head instructors in either rock climbing, archery, or canoeing. These three activities are the main ones we offer to campers in the summer. Training in all three skills runs simultaneously.

Rock Climbing

Participants will learn to coordinate and run a rock climbing program in either an indoor or outdoor setting. The goal is to have our instructors proficient in the setup and tear down of top rope climbs, set up and tear down of institutional rappels, adjacent rope rescues, the ability to make climbing/rappelling programs fun and safe, and to teach campers about the sport of rock climbing. This is the only one of the three that has a pre-requisite: participants should have at least two years of climbing experience (preferably outdoors) and be absolutely proficient in belaying.

Canoeing

Participants will learn to coordinate and run a flat-water canoeing program. The goal is to have our instructors proficient in different tandem strokes and manoeuvres, proper land and water-based rescues, how to judge and navigate flat water, and the use of safety equipment. Upon successful completion, participants will get a certificate in Basic or Intermediate Tandem Lake Skills through Paddle Canada.

Archery

Participants will learn to coordinate and run an archery program. The goal is to have our instructors proficient in the knowledge of archery equipment, the usage of this equipment, and the ability to lead a group of archers safely in a program.
